Subtract a little for the post itself — a 4x4 is actually 3.5 inches square, so 30 inches of it displaces roughly 0.2 ft³ — and round up, because a short hole is not something you fix later.

  3. Multiply hours by loaded hourly cost. Wages plus payroll burden plus the auger, the truck and trailer, fuel, tools, and insurance.
  4. Divide by bay width to get a linear-foot cost, then add the items that are not per-bay at all: corner and terminal posts, gates, demo, disposal, access, permits.
  5. Add overhead. Yearly fixed cost spread across the hours you actually sell.
  6. Add profit as margin, not markup. They are different sums and the gap is real money. A job costing $4,800 with a 15 percent markup bills at $5,520 and keeps about 13 percent.
