Read the rates as one shop’s numbers on one job, not a benchmark. What travels between markets is the structure — per device, per circuit, per foot of a named gauge, per amp class, per trip. Why is every line priced per device or per circuit?

How do I write the cable line so nobody argues about it?
Name the gauge, the type, the measured length, and the two ends. “300 ft of 12/2 NM-B, panel to kitchen north wall” is checkable. “Wire” is not, and anything a homeowner cannot check is something they can dispute.
Measure the run the way the cable actually travels — down the stud bay, across the joists, up the wall — not the straight line on the floor plan. Add roughly 10 percent for the loop at each box and the gutter in the panel, and say so on the line rather than burying it. Quote a per-circuit rate that includes a stated first run length, then bill overage by the foot. How do permit and inspection fees go on the invoice?

Why does the same receptacle cost six times more in a finished wall?
Access is the single biggest price multiplier in electrical work, and it is invisible to the customer. Compare two lines from the same invoice.

That is roughly six times the rate, and it is not a markup — it is a different job wearing the same name. Carry one blended rate for both and you lose money every time the wall is closed and look expensive every time it is open. Which lines do customers dispute, and how should I word them?
