The one consumable worth measuring rather than assuming is deionizing resin, if you run a water-fed pole. Its cost per gallon moves with your incoming water: the harder the supply, the sooner the output climbs past 10 ppm and the tank needs recharging. Published figures span from a couple of hundred gallons per cubic foot on hard water to well over a thousand on soft, which is a range too wide to price from. Put a TDS meter on the inlet and a flow meter on the cart, log gallons per resin change for a month, and divide. Why does a small job need a minimum, and how big should it be?
