Two consequences follow. First, if you quote copper, quote it with a short validity window and say the price is subject to material cost at the time of order, because coil prices move. Second, copper is not a per-foot swap for aluminum. What do stories and access add to the labor?
Each elevation is really a separate job priced by how you get to it.
Single story is ladder work with a helper on the ground, and the pieces come off the machine, up the ladder, and onto hangers with no drama. A two-story elevation adds longer ladders, standoffs, more setup and reset per section, and a slower pace because a 38-foot piece of gutter is awkward at any height and dangerous at that one. The ladder rules are not paperwork. Where a portable ladder is used to reach an upper landing, OSHA requires the side rails to extend at least 3 feet above that landing, or the ladder to be secured at the top with a grasping device, under the construction ladder standard. That means the ladder you need for a three-story eave is longer than the eave height, and if you do not own it, renting it is a line on the estimate.
Two more access facts belong in writing. A seamless machine needs a place to park and a clear path long enough to run and carry a full-length piece; a fenced backyard with a 36-inch gate means the back run gets carried around the block or made in shorter sections with a seam. And landscaping directly under the eave, air conditioning units, and decks all slow the ladder work down. Note them on the estimate rather than absorbing them.
Which lines have to stay conditional until the old gutter is off?
Fascia, first and always. You cannot see the top edge of a fascia board with a gutter screwed to it, and a fascia that has been under a leaking spike-and-ferrule system for fifteen years is often soft. Hidden hangers screw into that board, and a hanger in rotten wood is a gutter on the ground next spring.

Then set price by margin. If a job costs you $1,620 in material, labor, and disposal, and you want to keep 38 percent of the invoice, divide by 0.62 and quote $2,613. Adding 38 percent to cost gives $2,236, which is a margin of about 27.5 percent. Same intention, nearly $380 gone on one house.
