DIRECT ANSWERApple rebuilt Siri as Siri AI: a conversational assistant with its own app, on-screen context, personal-data search, and AI reply suggestions in Messages, shipping with iOS 27 this fall. Writing help is now a system default for a billion users. The live question becomes whether Siri suggests a generic reply or invokes a playbook trained on your voice.

What was announced?

At the WWDC26 keynote on June 8, Apple unveiled Siri AI, a rebuilt conversational Siri. According to Apple’s newsroom release, it gets its own app, understands what is on your screen, searches across your personal data, and offers AI reply suggestions in Messages. It ships with iOS 27 in fall 2026. One practical note for the impatient: in the first developer beta, access to Siri AI sits behind a waitlist.

What does it mean for personal, on-device writing?

System-level writing help just became a default. When iOS 27 lands, a billion people get reply suggestions without installing anything, without picking a tool, often without forming an opinion about AI at all. That resets the baseline. “AI can draft a reply” stops being a feature and becomes plumbing.

It also turns a theoretical contrast into a live one. A system-wide suggestion engine has to optimize for everyone, which in practice means optimizing for acceptable. It cannot know that you never open with “I hope this finds you well.” It does not know how you push back on a deadline, or that your messages to your manager run two sentences, maximum. Generic suggestions for a billion users on one side. A voice trained on your corrections on the other. Every iPhone user will be able to run that comparison on their own messages this fall.

To be fair, defaults win on convenience, and plenty of replies genuinely are generic. “Sounds good, see you at three” needs no style. The question is what you reach for when the message carries weight.

Where does ILURA stand?

Directly in the path of this one. Siri, through App Intents, is exactly how ILURA is invoked, alongside the Share Sheet and Shortcuts. So the defining question for the fall is not Siri versus ILURA. It is what happens when you ask Siri for a reply: does it suggest something generic, or does it invoke your playbook, trained by correction, running on-device through Apple Intelligence. ILURA’s job is to be the second answer. And honestly, with Siri AI waitlisted in the first beta, everyone is still learning the details. Including us.

Platform news matters when it changes what users expect from personal AI. ILURA reads these shifts through one lens: private agents trained by the user on iPhone.

Quick answers

When does Siri AI ship?
Apple says Siri AI ships with iOS 27 in fall 2026. In the first developer beta, access to Siri AI is waitlisted, so even developers may wait to try it.
Does Siri AI replace apps like ILURA?
It resets the baseline. Siri AI offers general reply suggestions for everyone. ILURA exists so that Siri can invoke playbooks trained on your tone and rules instead.
